Imagine a Mac
The big news is that Sal Saghoian is leaving Apple after many, many years as the heart of nerdy automation.1 That’s not the big story though. The big story is that Apple eliminated his position. Imagine a Mac without Hazel or Keyboard Maestro or FastScripts or Folder Rules or Automator. Now, imagine that it costs $4000. I’ve been a die hard Mac fanatic long after it went out of fashion. I don’t buy the talk that iOS is just as capable. A motorcycle is a perfectly good form of transportation until I want to go to Ikea.
From this year’s Mac announcements it looks like the Mac road map is going down a dead-end for me. I have a 2015 Retina MacBook Pro. I plan to sell my Thunderbolt Display and buy the next iPad Pro instead of the new MacBook Pro. 2016 has been a year of disappointment and acceptance.
As usual Michael Tsai has the best summary from around the internet.

I can honestly say that Sal’s videos about automation are part of what made me the Mac-lover I am. His work made the Mac seem like a computer from the distant future. ↩︎
