Pinbrowser for iPhone
Pinbrowser is a new app by a new developer. It does one simple thing: It allows you to browse the public Pinboard.in feeds. Take this review with a grain of salt, because I’m flattered to be included as one of the default feeds.
Pinbrowser strong suit is knowing what it should be. It’s not trying to be a Pinboard.in bookmarking tool. It is strictly a browser. It comes pre-configured with the Popular feed, one tag feed and (surprisingly) my feed. Bookmarks are loaded quickly and presented in a very readable list format. Tapping a bookmark opens it in the in-app browser.
While Pinbrowser is not a bookmarking tool, it plays well with my other favorite Pinboard.in client, Pinbook. Any bookmark can be sent to Pinbook for bookmarking. I like this idea because I like how Pinbook provides tag autocompletion, notes and privacy toggles. If you don’t own Pinbook, then Pinbrowser will open the Pinboard webpage for bookmarking.
Pinbrowser is certainly a 1.0. There are some rough edges. There is only support for a single saved tag group. All list switching happens through the settings pane, which I found a bit confusing.
I’d also love an option to add more users to the list of public feeds. I’d really appreciate a discovery option that rotated through other Pinboard user’s public bookmarks. I find some good stuff by browsing the bookmarks of other like-minded nerds.
While I have minor complaints about Pinbrowser, it’s an instant-buy for a dollar.
