I’ve listened to podcasts since before people knew what to call them. It was way back in the days when we loaded MP3’s on chunky iPods so we could listen to other geeks talk about weird computer tricks. For much of this time I’ve listened to Katie Floyd.
I believe the first place I heard Katie was on the Mac Round Table podcast.

What is worse than academic groups getting scooped by DeepMind? The fact that the collective powers of Novartis, Merck, Pfizer, etc, with their hundreds of thousands (~million?) of employees, let an industrial lab that is a complete outsider to the field, with virtually no prior molecular sciences experience, come in and thoroughly beat them on a problem that is, quite frankly, of far greater importance to pharmaceuticals than it is to Alphabet.
Does Australia’s access and assistance law impact 1Password?
One of the most disturbing things about the Assistance and Access Act is that it apparently authorizes the Australian government to compel someone subject to its laws to surreptitiously take actions that harm our customers’ privacy and security without revealing that to us. Would an Australian employee of 1Password be forced to lie to us and do something that we would definitely object to?
I try to avoid writing prescriptive blog posts. One man’s top ten list is another person’s junk science. But sometimes a nut of an idea can stick and help the next poor shmuck down the line. So this is my struggle with insomnia.
I’ve had insomnia on and off for 30 years. When I don’t have insomnia, I fall asleep instantly and sleep like a rock. When the insomnia creeps back in, I’m lucky to get four hours of sleep a night.
Cooltools is a fun site but I’m linking to this post because I love this definition of concept mapping. I’m a big fan of concept mapping when I’m trying to solve problems. It’s a hard thing to grok.
And, what it really does is, you construct a model of what you know about something. And that consists of the nodes that you’re familiar with in a mind map, where you’ve got a central concept, but it highlights the relationship between those nodes.
This article has taken me a long time to write because every time I go into LiquidText I end up reading for way too long. That’s a sign of a great reading app, if you ask me. But, LiquidText isn’t a reading app, it’s an annotation app, and it’s the best annotation app I’ve ever used.
ApologyThis is a big review. Well, it's a big download. The images total around 14MB.
I’ll be honest, I enjoy reading productivity books about as much as I enjoy reading about riding a bicycle. I just don’t find the advice very useful in my own life. “Productivity” books can feel a lot like a pyramid scheme where each subsequent author retells ideas from other books. I’ve rarely found a “self help” book that provided more value than David Allen’s Getting Things Done. I do, however, enjoy a good technical manual which is what brought me to Kourosh Dini’s “Creating Flow with OmniFocus” many years ago.
I have a daily routine that should involve Siri Shortcuts. I have two custom actions to control HomeKit scenes in my house. In the morning it sets my bedroom, hallway, and kitchen to 20% light when I say “I’m Awake”. At night I say “I’m in bed” and Shortcuts turns off all of the lights except for my bedroom, regardless of their current state. I love both of these Shortcuts because I can use a simple voice command to trigger them and they make my life a tiny bit better.
Warning Signs: President Trump May Violate Federal Law in Absolving Saudi Crown Prince | Just Security
As the conservative editorial board of the Wall Street Journal wrote, “we are aware of no President, not even such ruthless pragmatists as Richard Nixon or Lyndon Johnson, who would have written a public statement like this without so much as a grace note about America’s abiding values and principles,” and that it was “startling to see a U.
I was a huge fan of Nebo when I first started using my iPad Pro and Pencil. I wrote about in 2017 with much joy. Nebo felt a bit like the future of tablets. It did what all of those handwriting demos from decade ago pretended was just around the corner. You write and Nebo understands the text.
But, over time Nebo felt awkward. It was persistent in demanding an account for syncing my notes.
