Keep an Eye on 2Do for Tasks Link

2Do for iPhone is almost ready to launch. I’ve been on the 2Do beta since it was announced and have a few conclusions to share: I’ve never been on a beta with such a fast paced development cycle I’ve never been on a beta that was so open to user input 2Do might be the prettiest and most creative task manager I’ve ever used on the iPhone There’s still a lot of room for innovation and moving away from the pre-iPhone mentality of a check-list

You Probably Suck at Presentations Link

It’s ok. I’ve rarely seen anyone not suck at presentations. Communication is hard enough. Communication with a finite time limit, topic and goal is incredibly hard. Doing it with style and grace feels impossible. David Sparks has style, grace and a way with eBooks. His latest Field Guide is all about preparing and giving the best presentation possible. I’ve given hundreds and maybe even thousands of presentations. I like to think I have my tricks.

Dot Notation for Snippet Expansion Link

I find Zach Holmquist’s syntax for TextExpander snippets both logically satisfying and frustratingly prone toward collisions. It’s the kind of system that makes me smack my forehead for not coming up with it myself, but then I dig in and realize how terrible it would be in a world of dot notation (like URL’s). The syntax is logical: email.me expands to your preferred email address. me.home expands to the home address.

TextExpander Guide Link

Sure, lot’s of people are linking to this AsianEffeciancy.com guide, but it’s well done.1 App makers really should pay to have these kinds of guides made for their apps. There are complex and technically challenging apps that many people just don’t know how to get started with. A nice guide can make all of the difference. Boy, I sure don’t endorse the use of pop-overs on the website though.

Design+Code Tutorials

Design+Code is an excellent resource for learning about building iOS apps. It’s half design tutorials and half coding tutorials. It first caught my attention for the terrific tutorials for the Mac app Sketch.1 I purchased the entire “book” immediately and it is all top quality. If you think the Design+Code Web site is gorgeous just wait until you see the tutorial content. The next chapter Design with Swift is now available and starts with a good discussion of Web vs.

Presentations Field Guide Link

You’ll probably want the next Field Guide by David Sparks. I like the new design and it’s about a topic that most people struggle with. There’s so much bad presentation technology out there. David has a lot of experience presenting and I suspect he knows a thing or two about doing it well. I also really love that Apple recognizes how unique and thoughtful his work is. What an awesome URL.

Audiobook Notes Link

Patrick describes a relatively simple way to take notes about an audiobook while walking around. But I really like this sentiment: I know this so-called workflow isn’t for everyone. Serious/professional readers might even shake their head in disbelief. My girlfriend constantly snickers when I tell her that I’ve finished another book, but some people tend to judge and you might even get a little hate. All I can say is, that in my book it doesn’t matter how you engage with literature, as long as you do it.

Run Scripts on Your Mac from iOS Link

From Moving Electrons comes a nice tip about executing remote commands over SSH from Pythonista. It’s simple in design: Connects to the server. Executes the command passed as an argument to the script in Pythonista in the remote server (more info in the following section). Once the command is run, it disconnects from the server. Of course, this requires a remotely accessible Mac. I have some similar things I do with my hosts at Webfaction.

Dringend iOS Development on an iPad

Dringend looks like the logical extension from Pythonista.1 Write and build iOS apps on the iPad. It even deploys locally to the iPad for testing. It’s not worth anyone’s time to debate consumption versus creation devices. It’s not the device, it’s the user. Product page Yup. Affiliate links. ↩︎
