Dropbox for iOS Gets Modern Link

It’s nice to see Dropbox working on core features again. I haven’t been thrilled with what they are doing on the Mac but iOS is getting some new stuff today. The last time I used the iOS Dropbox app was to authenticate another app to use Dropbox. Hopefully this is a new focus for them.

OmniGraffle 7 Released Link

OmniGraffle is such a generally useful application that I stay in step with every upgrade. Now version 7 is out and I’m all in with the Pro version. I use OmniGraffle for a thousand different things each year. For example, I used it to plan out a new kitchen with the awesome scale features. I also use it to create nice visual effects like magnifier callouts for images. Now version 7 brings some big new features like SVG import, infinite canvas and a new point editor for shapes.

ScanSnap Commits to a Sierra Fix Link

Fujitsu’s ScanSnap announced a future fix in the works for their PDF creation tools on Sierra for Mac. While this issue is manifested by changes resident in macOS Sierra with how certain PDF content is influenced when it is modified using the new OS, Fujitsu is working to resolve both ends of this issue. To start, Fujitsu will take the initial action to fix select applications that will allow ScanSnap to be used to create new PDF content going forward that is safe to modify on macOS Sierra.

The Democratization of Censorship Link

For those unaware, one of the highest profile security researchers and bloggers was hit with the largest DDoS attack in history. It was so massive that it impacted Akamai and they removed support for his website, which is a dramatic accomplishment that may portend an unwelcome future for the internet and free speech. Today, he has a follow up post The Democratization of Censorship: John Gilmore, an American entrepreneur and civil libertarian, once famously quipped that “the Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

Hazel 10 Year Sale Link

Hazel for Mac is 10 years old and to celabrate Noodlesoft has a 50% off sale running right now. Just visit the store and get it for $16. Hazel is one of the main reasons I’d never go iOS only. It makes my Mac far too efficient to abandon.

Migrating 12 Years of GMail to FastMail Link

From Charl Botha: Fast forward to July 15, 2016 (there’s that lab journal again…) when, after receiving an email from Google asking me to indicate how exactly I would like them to use my data to customise adverts around the web, and after thinking for a bit about what kind of machine learning tricks I would be able to pull on you with 12 years of your email, I decided that I really had to make alternative plans for my little email empire.

Droplr Lifetime Sale Link

A Droplr lifetime subscription is available from StackSocial this week for $22. I let my subscription expire a while ago but this is a no brainer in my book. By way of @ttscoff

OmniFocus Update Adds End to End Encryption Link

From the OmniFocus blog: But, with our latest updates today (OmniFocus 2.6 for Mac and OmniFocus 2.15 for iOS), your data will be completely encrypted before it leaves your device so that it’s encrypted on the server itself. This is a major improvement for me. I’ve always given the OmniSync server a side-eye for tracking tasks with sensitive information in them. This was especially true of tracking work tasks.

References in Stranger Things Link

Speaking of ground breaking television, Stranger Things was a delight. One of the many reasons I loved it was the familiarity. There are many call backs to some of the best moves from the 70’s and 80’s and it just all felt so familiar but new at the same time. Ulysse Thevenson on Vimeo has a side by side comparison of shots from Stranger Things with shots from all the great movies.
