Which do you prefer? 80% of your bandwidth and attention consumed by ads or some affiliate links sprinkled through the text? I prefer affiliate links and that’s mostly how I pay for this site. I’ve been running a Keyboard Maestro macro for years that converts links on my clipboard to affiliate tagged URLs. I’m always happy to replace my scripts with a professionally made and supported alternative and here’s a good way to do that.
2Do is really interesting and well designed. The iOS version is free for one week only and the Mac version is on sale too.
After using BusyContacts on my Mac for the past 6 months, I can declare it’s the most I will ever enjoy managing contacts.
Much of the time, managing contacts in the address book makes me think of Sisyphus waking up every morning and thinking about his day. It’s not going to be enjoyable and the most you can hope for is to end up where you started. But, a well groomed address book is a powerful enabler.
I recommend starting with the documentation. While the Action Builder is a huge step forward, it’s still not beginner level stuff. If you have experience with Keyboard Maestro, this is still more complicated.
Access the new Action Editor from the main LaunchBar menu:
The editor greatly simplifies the plist creation (which I assume is the primary function) but most of the “work” in an action is performed by some sort of scripting language.
Pixelmator is an extremely impressive application and it’s probably much cheaper than anyone would believe. Check out their demo of the repair tool functionality on their blog. It’s pretty mind blowing as part of a $30 Mac app.
Pixelmator | Mac | $30
First up, there’s a pretty good rundown of Mind Mapping applications. I don’t disagree with their assessment, but I also reserve the right to prefer iThoughts as my primary tool of choice. You pretty much can’t go wrong today with one of these options.
I’ll also add MindMeister as a really great multi-platform tool that also has solid collaboration features. I use it when I’m on Windows or if I need to share with someone else.
I’ve been really impressed with the development of 2Do for Mac and iOS. While I don’t use it on a daily basis, It has a lot of clever interactions and it’s clear the developers use it themselves. It may be one of the best new task managers on the market.
Now you can get either version for 30% off the regular price.
2Do for Mac | $35 (on Sale)
2Do for iOS | $10 (on Sale)
iThoughts, one of my favorite concept mapping applications, is out with a nice update for the Mac version. It’s been awhile since I linked to it but there’s a lot of great new stuff in the Mac application.
Presentation Mode The big new feature is presentation mode. This lets you walk through a large map and create “slides” as you jump around, expanding and collapsing nodes. You can then play the presentation with some beautiful effects.
The latest version of 1Password for Mac adds the One Time Password feature (what I’m going to continue to call 2-Factor Authentication). It syncs with the iOS version too.
Check out how they handle the barcode scanning implementation video:
BitTorrent Sync, Dropbox, Amazon Cloud, Google Drive — There’s no shortage of ways I can store files on the Internet. I’ve been a dedicated Dropbox user for many years and continue to pay for their “Pro” consumer product. The announcement of a new Amazon unlimited storage option is compelling but the lack of options for access as well as limited app support will likely keep me using Dropbox.
But, I find myself using my own hosted Cloud Station on my Synology NAS more often as my way of getting files moved between devices.
