I would be remiss if I didn't point out the Macsparky.com review of OmniOutliner for iPad. He's a bit more upbeat about the release but notes some of the same gaps. We both still like using the app but look forward to the infamous Omni Group iterations on design.
The Omni Group The Omni Group has produced some of the best iPad and iPhone apps available. By “best”, I mean that they have both a highly polished asthetic quality as well as a sophisticated and inventive user interaction design. For example, OmniGraffle for the iPad is an absolutely stunning achievement. The app is better than most desktop diagramming tools. It is comprised of clever little multi-touch and tap interactions that make working with it a breeze.
I purchased the Sony DRC-BT30 Bluetooth Headphone Adapter about a month ago from Amazon. After a month of heavy use I thought I’d share my experience with it. Be warned, it's an unsatisfactory ending.
Why? I listen to podcasts and music all day. My sole music player is my iPhone 4. I generally switch between a couple different headphones based on the working conditions. If I am stationary for awhile and need to concentrate, I will wear my Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones.
I have been a long time fan of the Logitech Revolution MX mouse. It was a comfortable mouse with a good bit of functionality. The prize feature was the weighted free-spinning scroll wheel. I could really zoom through a long post (which was much more useful before sites began spreading posts across multiple pages to scrounge for more views). I really liked the MX. However, it was a flaky piece of technology that lived fast and died young.
I listen to a large number of Podcasts. My queue of podcasts has almost doubled since Dan's 5by5 really started pumping out quality material. While I love the increased variety, managing and sycning has become a mjor stumbling block to getting the latest content. Even if I charge my iPhone all night, I still need to connect it to Mac to sync with iTunes every morning before I leave for the office.
Ben Brooks recently wrote about the using the Griffin stylus for handwriting on the iPad. I agree with much of his post, but one thing I have discovered is that the stylus really makes the difference. I've tried several (but not the Griffin). A nice comfortable stylus is much better than using your finger for taking notes. Additionally, a stylus with a rubberized tip is key. It provides a subtle resistance against the glass that feels more like writing on paper.
Google search has been experiencing a slow slide into the realm of unmoderated Wordpress comments. I'm sure Google finds a lot of relavent search results but in general the first 2-3 pages of results is garbage filled with link farm results and Adwords hits.
I've recently been on a quest to replace Google search with something that actually works. I was getting pretty frustrated until I stumbled across duckduckgo.com. So far the only bad aspect of the service is the name.
SimplicityIsBliss has some very helpful info. It's new to me but is now in my short list of feeds for useful Mac information. There is particularly heavy attention paid to Omnifocus but in a good way.
I came across this great widget for tracking package shipments from the Dashboard. It has a really simple interface while remaining incredibly flexible. You can enter a title for your various shipments which is especially handy if you are an Amazon Prime member and order a lot of stuff.
I've used Leopard all weekend and I am hooked. I expected it to be just a mediocre upgrade without those gotcha features. I've been proven totally wrong. Since top ten lists are all the rage with the internets, here's mine.
Top ten reasons to embrace Leopard
10) I actually like the Dock now (I don't hide it in the basement between uses anymore)
9) Coverflow sucks less than I thought (It is actually handy for folders with images, but not much else)
