I felt inadequate all day today, knowing what a big hole is left to fill. Here are just a few of the questions I kept asking myself all day:
What if everyone just tried to make the world a little better every day? What did I do to make the future a bit brighter for EVERYONE. What have I done that I would want to show my daughter when she is grown?
True of so many industries that rely on expertise. This is completely backwards from where any industry innovator should be headed.

Say, perhaps, you were a huge Star Wars nerd and could not handle watching the edited versions available for home viewing.
Well, there might be a version that you can watch today and giggle like a 7-year-old again. Star Wars Revisited is a loving re-edit.
It is perhaps available at several different qualities and there may be many many torrents available to download.
You may have downloaded the highest quality version and used Handbrake to generate a copy that you can proudly show to your 3-year-old daughter.
I really like these two takes on the Google-Motorola deal.
Ben Brooks points out that Motorola makes a heck of a lot of modems (they also make A LOT of cable boxes). You could argue that this might be about more than patents. Why own the pipes when you own all of the faucets.
Andrew Cunningham points out that this might increase FTC scrutiny. I hope they also consider what leverage they may exercise when they can control the routers of the consumers too.
You know what would be nice? The ability to plan an entire project in OmniOutliner and automatically turn that into a new OmniFocus project. I love the ease of use in OmniOutliner. I can grab a task and slide it around to appropriately position it. It’s just more organic than OmniFocus.
I would love to simply upload an OmniOutliner OPML file and have the project just appear in OmniFocus.
Yeah, that would be nice.
I’m still deciding how good of an idea this is, but I may start including RSS feed links to my Pinboard references in my posts. When I do research on a topic, I add all of my source material into Pinboard. Some of it also makes it into Instapaper if it needs a good sit-down deep dive.
For example, I’m working on a new natural language task processor for OmniFocus (see previous post) based on Python.
Cripes! This is a pretty deep review of OmniFocus perspectives. Not a lot that would be new to a long time user of OF but some good suggestions for new or intermediate users. As usual, some quality work by Sven Fechner.
I stumbled across the the fantastic diagramming web-app Diagram.ly through my RSS feeds several days ago. GigaOm had a nice article covering a load of web-based apps and piqued my interest in several new tools. I’m generally not a fan of web apps simply because I do not always have a network connection and often the app disappears when the VC money dries up. However, I also appreciate a well done cross platform application.
I’m giddy with anticipation. Seriously folks, this application will create an entirely new use case for the iPad. The Omni Group has some real UI visionaries.
