Twitter Is Not RSS

Over the past several months, I've seen this subject come up again and again: RSS is dying. Twitter is replacing it. I don't believe it for one second. The stats for Macdrifter.com tell a very different story.1 My RSS subscribers (last I checked) was at least 50 times the number of people that read the pages directly. Retweets of articles and incoming links from Twitter are a small fraction of overall page views.

Oatmeal Grammar

The Oatmeal is still one of my favorite sources for grammar refreshers. For example, the feared semicolon.

The Future of Social Data Link

An interesting look at something that I think it the true future of social data. A credit agency will scrape Facebook to build profiles and track individuals. So what kind of data does the credit agency actually want to mine? According to the leaked documents, the main thrusts seem to be establishing relationship links between people and keeping tabs on address changes and address history. This should be not be a surprise to anyone.

Getting Religion Done

On the internet, GTD is sufficiently indistinguishable from a religion. There is no shortage of people to help explain how everyone else is doing it wrong.1 Nothing I have posted has garnered more outrage through comments and emails than my opinions about GTD. I don't consider criticism a productivity tip. I also don't consider my opinions about productivity valuable to anyone other than myself. I think Sven gets close to an even tempered assessment of GTD for his needs.

Strange World

If I just woke from a 7 year nap I'm pretty sure it would feel like an alternate universe. Apple Is the Most Valuable Company in the World Google is Evil IE is Cutting Edge Microsoft is the Underdog Oracle is the Champion of Innovation

Pears Link

Pears (or Pea.rs) is a webpage for testing HTML and CSS combinations. It is also a nice looking WordPress theme for creating a custom selection of code pairs. By the infinitely talented Dan Cederholm

iOS Image Rotation in Safari

Today I noticed something odd while viewing a post I made. in Safari on my iPhone, an image was rotated incorrectly. Here's what it look like on my iPhone and iPad: I'm not sure why, but I decided to check with Firefox 12 on Win7. No rotation. Safari on my Mac also displays the image in landscape (not rotated) What the heck is happening here? I snapped the original image in Lumin on my iPhone.

Entitled Readability

Just spit-balling here, but I was thinking of offering a for-pay service where I subscribe to Readability. Readers pay me a small fee and I then use my single Readability account to package their products and send them to you. You will never need to visit the Readability site or even participate in their business. If Readability contacts me on behalf of each user individually, I will then give them a portion of your money.

TextDrop 3.5 Update

TextDrop 3.5 is out now1 and brings some big enhancements for customizing the text preview window. Version 3.5 brings features like custom stylesheets, iframe support and embedded javascript. Every update to TextDrop is significant. What I really like is that the developer adds these features to scratch his own itch. The app gets better because he uses it. Go watch the video. What is TextDrop? It is the best webapp for Dropbox based notes.
