Snag.gy is a great looking web app. It’s like Skitch but as a web app.
Such a fantastic toy from the DuckDuckGo gang.
By way of late nights cruising Pinboard.
Much has been made of the The Daily and the last gasps and twitches that marked the end of a wasted opportunity. That’s a well worn story and I have no desire to partake. But, I will join in the chorus of people pointing to The Magazine as the way of the future. I don’t think the two models of content or publishing can be directly compared. The Daily was designed to be an up to the moment news source where as The Magazine is a periodical of primarily timeless writing.
Permit me the role of old fart for a moment. I remember the days when the web was small. A time when we needed a breadcrumb trail to find our way around. Before the web was indexed, there was the “blogroll”. A sidebar list most sites included that pointed to other, similar or familiar Web sites.
I rather miss the blogroll. It was a way to find interesting new sites recommended by people that I already liked.
A great look at Glassboard by Kevin van Haaren at TidBits.
When my turn came to go with Dad to the hospital and keep everyone up to date, I remembered an app I’d used with friends at a conference many months back, Glassboard, which enables a small group to create a private social network in the form of a “board,” which is a bit like a chat room for a specific set of people.
Sean Korzdorfer dug into the Checkvist API and made a much better version of my Inbox script.
If you don’t use Checkvist, then you’re probably sick of these posts. If you do use Checkvist, then you’re doing it right.
TJ has thorough piece up on creating a Web site out of a Dropbox folder. It’s filled with all of the nerdy necessities. And, damn, do I like me some good baby eating graphics and lengthy footnotes.
Update: Looks like he’s moved the domain.
This is the post where I give away a few behind the scenes secrets and make my own project useless to most people. Before breathing life into NerdQuery, I used a couple of tools for multi-site searches. In fact, I still use these tricks for sites that are not part of NerdQuery.
Straight Up Google You can force Google to do a multi-site search with some Google-Fu. Here’s an example of searching “multimarkdown” on three different sites:

I believe that our election results show that we are moving. It’s hard, there’s a long road ahead, there will be resistance (some of it shocking) and, sadly, I think our journey will be slow going. But we’re moving. We’re moving towards a deeper understanding of who we are and, as we do, we’re holding true to the ideals that brought my parents here in the first place.
This is why an open and well documented API wins the race. Good stuff.
