Some beer suggestions for the Holiday weekend.1 These are all good and creative beers from small breweries.
Founders Cerise is a beer brewed with tart Michigan cherries. It’s so different from a beer, that even non-beer drinkers may like it. It’s close to a Lambic but less fruity.
Victory Saison du Buff is for people that like to experiment. It’s a collaboration beer from Dogfish Head, Stone and Victory with Sage, Rosemary, Parsley and Thyme.
I like to drink local beers for two reasons:
It supports someone’s dream job The beers are almost always more interesting than national brands Jack’s Abby is local to me and their Hoponius Union is, indeed, interesting. It’s a wet hopped Lager. The Full Pint has a thorough and accurate review.
I know that the center of this discussion has been the merits of the hoppiness of this beer, but don’t go thinking this is some 9%, million-IBU destroyer.
A craft brew nearly as bad as Budweiser:
Wynkoop originally floated the idea as an April Fool’s joke — a gag on nuts, if you will. But people were so into the idea of a beer flavored with Colorado delicacy “Rocky Mountain oysters” that the brewers were eventually won over by demand. So they made an eight-barrel batch, with 3 BPBs — balls per barrel.
An introduction to beer flavors. I disagree with some of the statements but it still has good info.

What an amazing home brewing controller.

A fantastic looking Raspberry Pi project for automated chilling. I need some geeky brewing buddies like those.
For the inexeperienced, you can age beer. It’s like wine but the rules are different.
Here’s a good review from KegWorks

Personally, I don’t get too wrapped up in picking the “right” glass. I prefer a small glass. I drink slowly and I get to drink a greater variety without drinking too much.
If you’re just drinking generic mass produced beer, then who are you kidding. Drink it out of the bottle wrapped in a paper bag.
The shape of a glass changes the rate of drinking. Can we all just agree not to drink out of boot shaped glasses? It’s not funny. I can suggest another shape that would be funny, but it’s probably not family-friendly.
Apparently beer and soft drinks are the ideal post-nuclear war beverage.
That’s something to look forward to, I guess.
